Dentistry

Dental care is essential for the overall well-being of dogs and cats, which is why we offer comprehensive dental services, including annual dental checks and treatments.

Why is dental care important?

Healthy teeth contribute to the overall well-being of your dog or cat. Dental problems, such as plaque/tartar, gingivitis and periodontitis, can lead to pain, infections and even serious health problems if left untreated. Regular dental care helps prevent and treat these problems, allowing your pet to live a comfortable and healthy life.

Our dental care

  1. Dental checks: During a consultation, such as the annual vaccination, our vets thoroughly check your pet's teeth. We look for signs of dental problems, such as tartar, inflammation or broken/loose teeth. If necessary, advice is given or additional treatment is offered.
  2. Dental treatments: Teeth are professionally cleaned and polished to remove plaque/tartar and bacteria as thoroughly as possible and to improve oral health. If necessary, dental radiographs are taken and possibly extractions or other procedures are performed. Dental treatments are done under general anaesthesia.
  3. Dental X-ray: In order to map everything properly, we use dental X-ray. This allows us to identify problems that may not be visible to the 'naked eye', such as hidden dental abscesses, fractures or other abnormalities. Dental radiographs can also help in making a plan of action for treatment.

And is there anything else you can do at home to keep your teeth as healthy as possible? Yes, definitely!

  • Regular tooth brushing: As with humans, regular tooth brushing is essential for maintaining good oral health in pets. Use a special pet toothbrush and toothpaste and try to slowly introduce this into your pet's routine.
  • Chew toys: Chew toys and dental snacks can help remove dental plaque/tartar. They also stimulate chewing behaviour, which promotes oral health. Choose toys specially designed for dental purposes and be sure to ask our team about their suitability.
  • Special diets: There are special diets and nutritional supplements available that are designed to support dental health. These foods can help reduce plaque/tartar build-up and support healthy gums. Feel free to ask our team about suitable varieties of these.
  • Regular checks: We recommend having a dental check-up by a vet at least once a year. The vet can detect any dental problems in time, give advice and, if necessary, initiate treatment
