Laparoscopy
Since 2015, we have offered laparoscopic sterilisation as an efficient and less invasive alternative to spaying your dog. Actually, it is a castration, but this procedure in the bitch is often popularly called a spay.
What is laparoscopic sterilisation?
Laparoscopic sterilisation is an advanced surgical technique performed using small incisions and a camera-guided approach.
Benefits of laparoscopy
- Less invasive: Due to the small incisions, laparoscopic sterilisation causes less trauma and discomfort for your dog compared to the regular method.
- Faster recovery: Due to the smaller incisions, dogs (and their owners) generally experience a faster recovery process.
- Less pain: The precision and method of laparoscopic surgery often results in less discomfort and less pain during and after surgery for your dog.
- Improved visualisation: The camera-guided approach offers our vets a clear view into the abdomen, increasing accuracy and safety.
Disadvantages of laparoscopy
- If unexpectedly serious uterine abnormalities are found, it is possible that laparoscopic sterilisation cannot be continued. In this case, the operation can be continued on the regular method.
- We do not perform laparoscopic sterilisation on dogs weighing less than +/- 7 kg.
