Paraveterinary consultation

Paraveterinary consultation

To begin with, what is a paraveterinary assistant? Many people know the assistant, like a dental assistant, general practitioner assistant and, consequently, veterinary assistant. A paraveterinarian is 'more' than a veterinary assistant. A para-veterinarian has undergone training, which gives them greater medical competence and more responsibilities. Within Dierenkliniek De Beestenhoek, every 'assistant' is a qualified paraveterinarian.

What is a paraveterinary consultation?

A paraveterinary consultation is an appointment performed by an experienced and qualified paraveterinarian. Paraveterinarians perform a wide range of tasks to support your pet's overall health and well-being.

What can you make an appointment with the paraveterinarian for?

  • Clipping nails: Cutting nails is important to prevent them from getting too long and causing discomfort to your pet. Our paraveterinarian can do this safely and competently for your pet.
  • Wound checks and suture removal: Our paraveterinarian can perform wound checks to monitor healing and, if necessary, remove sutures after surgery.
  • Weight coaching: A healthy weight is important for your pet's overall health. Our paraveterinarians specialised in this can advise and guide you in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight for your pet.
  • Emptying anal glands: Some pets need help emptying their anal glands to prevent blockages or infections. Our paraveterinarian can perform this procedure carefully and professionally.
  • Diabetes consultation: For pets with diabetes, regular monitoring and guidance is essential. Our para-veterinarians specialised in this can help monitor your pet's diabetes by measuring blood sugar levels and using this information to advise on diet and/or medication.
  • Blood pressure measurement: Often an initial blood pressure check starts at the vet's office, but in some cases it is necessary to carry out regular checks. Our paraveterinarian can do this at the surgery. For a blood pressure measurement, it is nice to have a 'quiet' place and a quiet moment to take this measurement.
  • Monthly or recurrent injections: For administering injections, it is also possible to visit our paraveterinarian. A check will be made and the injection will be administered. This can be antibiotics, but also a Librela or Solensia injection.
  • Pet Care Plan check: As part of our Pet Care Plan, our paraveterinarian can carry out regular check-ups to ensure your pet receives all necessary preventive care, to check your pet overall and to answer any questions.
  • Junior consultation: In 2024, we will also launch a junior consultation for dogs around six months old. More information on this will follow soon.
