Ultrasound

Echography

At both locations, we have ultrasound facilities. An ultrasound can be performed for various reasons, such as examining the abdominal organs, detecting tumours, assessing heart health or checking for pregnancy in your pet.

What is ultrasound?

An ultrasound is a diagnostic procedure that uses sound waves to display detailed images of your pet's internal organs, without burdening the animal.

In most cases, no special preparation is needed for your pet prior to the ultrasound. Depending on the specific examination, we may ask not to allow your pet to eat or urinate before the appointment.

The ultrasound process

During the ultrasound, your pet will be positioned comfortably, usually lying on a soft pillow specially designed for ultrasound. The fur is shaved locally and, to conduct the sound waves properly, a gel is applied to the area being examined. The vet then moves a probe over the area to obtain and capture images.

After ultrasound

After the ultrasound, the vet will review the images obtained. If necessary, follow-up examination and/or further treatment may be recommended based on the ultrasound findings.

Apart from our own vets who can do ultrasounds, Anna Polderman of DierenEchoService also comes to our practice every week to do more specialised ultrasounds (of heart and abdomen, among others).
